Work Life Balance

September 28, 20243 min read

Introduction:

Surviving Work-Life Balance as a Working Mumma Should Be an Olympic-Level Sport.

Let’s be real, working and motherhood combined isn’t just a job—it’s a full-blown Olympic event. Balancing work, kids, housework, eating well, moving your body and maybe (just maybe) a few moments of self-care require the finesse of a gymnast, the stamina of a marathoner, and the patience of a kindergarten teacher on a rainy day. But don’t worry, you’ve already won gold just by getting through today without completely losing your sanity.

The Morning Relay Race

Your day kicks off with the Get Everyone Out the Door event. You juggle packing lunches, making breakfast, appearing clam and putting on shoes while responding to work emails—all before that first cup of coffee kicks in. If you’ve ever sprinted from the front door back to the kitchen to grab forgotten snacks while holding a child under one arm like a football, congratulations, you’ve mastered the art of the dash. The answer is simple. Just spend 15 – 20 minutes the night before NO matter how tired you are. It will make everyone calmer. Even try morning calming or motivation music. Every sense affects every child. Never forget that

Work-Life "Balance (Spoiler: It's a Lie) Ah, work-life balance. We hear about it all the time, but let's be honest—it’s more like a game of Jenga. One wrong move, and the whole thing topples. You try to keep up appearances at work while handling mini-emergencies at home. Me honest and authentic with your boss put in the hard work at other times. Keep them in communication and keep them reassured. Simple.

Lunch Break = Freedom

Spoiler: it’s not. Instead of a quiet meal, you’re squeezing in errands, folding laundry, or trying to schedule that overdue dentist appointment. So just try for one week at first ten minutes of sitting in a park, walking the block or calling your mumma. Just give it a try.

Evenings: The Final Stretch

By 7 p.m., you’re an exhausted warrior, surviving on caffeine, willpower, and the hope that bedtime is near. But somehow, through the chaos, you manage it all— the key is scientifically proven, we are tribal. Connection is the key to providing you with value and meaning and more importantly hope. Even for the introvert. Spend ten minutes no devices and talk to your child, play a game, make them walk the dog with you around the block or simply call a mate even if only a five-minute call. For many they isolate and bury themselves in pity this is only circular and becomes habitual – manage the energy and make a change. Remember 1% a day. Don’t set the boundary at first too high.

So…… cheers to you, the working mummas, the real-life superheroes! You’ve got this—even if “balance” is slightly off. Working at its weekly becomes a habit, a habit a way of life. And finally, serenity will come. It took me 20 years to work it out but some of us are slower than others no matter what the qualifications are behind you. I sit in an AA meeting when I am exhausted with a neuro-scientist. Yep. Even the smartest of us get it wrong, there is no text book but connection is what gets you through no matter which way you connect. Find your tribe and the others leave behind with peace and serenity. Acceptance is also key. Your worst day are many peoples dream day. Remember that.

With loads of kindness and no judgement. You do you. M
